IndiGo Plans New International Routes to Southeast Asia and Beyond

IndiGo Airlines Set to Launch Non-Stop Flights to Seychelles

GURUGRAM – Exciting news for travelers! IndiGo Airlines (6E) is on the verge of launching non-stop flights to the picturesque Seychelles, following positive discussions with the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA). This development marks a significant step in enhancing travel options between India and the stunning island destination.

According to a recent report by Hindu Businessline, IndiGo has successfully obtained regulatory permissions to commence services to Seychelles International Airport (SEZ) located on Mahé Island. This new route is set to cater to the growing demand for international travel and tourism in the region.

IndiGo’s Expanding International Flight Network

IndiGo is not stopping at Seychelles. The airline is also planning to introduce new routes across Asia, including destinations such as Kyrgyzstan, Cambodia, and Laos. Moreover, the airline is set to boost flight frequencies on existing international routes and connect major Tier-I Indian cities with overseas destinations.

  • Upcoming Flights:
    • New flights from Pune (PNQ) to Bangkok (BKK) are postponed from October 27 to November 22, 2024.
    • A second overseas route from Pune (PNQ) to Dubai (DXB) will commence on November 22, 2024.
    • Daily direct services between Bengaluru (BLR) and Langkawi (LGK), Malaysia, will start on December 16, 2024.

IndiGo primarily operates its international routes using Airbus A321neos, while also deploying A320neos for select short-haul flights. Recent second-quarter results revealed a strong demand for international travel, prompting IndiGo’s management to set ambitious goals of expanding to over 40 international destinations by the end of FY25, up from the current 30.

A Decade-Long Partnership Between India and Seychelles

The launch of flights to Seychelles is supported by an Air Services Agreement signed between India and Seychelles in 2015. Currently, Air Seychelles operates a weekly direct flight to Mumbai (BOM), which has seen a surge in Indian visitors to Seychelles, increasing by over 50% from 2022 to 2023.

As the fifth-largest economy globally, India has become an attractive destination for Seychellois travelers looking for educational and professional opportunities. Conversely, India serves as a hub for medical tourism for many from Seychelles.

IndiGo’s New Adventure: Launch of IndiGoStretch

In an exciting move, IndiGo has also entered the premium market with the launch of IndiGoStretch, a new Business Class seat, effective November 14, 2024. The inaugural flight, 6E6814 from Delhi (DEL) to Mumbai, successfully showcased this new offering.

Key Features of IndiGoStretch:

  • 38-inch seat pitch for extra legroom.
  • 21.3-inch seat width and 5-inch recline for enhanced comfort.
  • 6-way adjustable headrest for added support.
  • Mobile/tablet holder for hands-free entertainment.
  • 60W USB-C port and 3-pin universal power outlet to keep passengers connected.

IndiGo aims to bridge the gap between low-cost carriers and full-service business-class offerings, with plans to expand this product to more routes soon.
