According to Flight Radar 24, Air India Express Flight IX471 took off from Cochin at 5:14 AM UTC (10:44 AM local time). Just 40 minutes into the flight, the crew received notification from the airport staff regarding a tire layer that had detached from the aircraft. Following the advice of the air traffic control, the flight crew executed a U-turn and performed a low flypast at 200 feet to allow ATC to assess the aircraft’s condition.

Upon receiving clearance, the flight safely landed back at Cochin at 7:02 AM UTC (12:32 PM IST). There were 112 passengers and 8 crew members aboard the Boeing 737-800, registered as VT-GHD, which is known for its distinctive “Samai / Diya” livery. Fortunately, no emergency was declared; however, the airport activated its emergency response protocols to ensure passenger safety.
