Emirates Airlines has officially launched the commercial operations of its first Airbus A350, setting a new standard in inflight entertainment and passenger comfort. This state-of-the-art aircraft, equipped with Thales’s AVANT Up system, aims to redefine the travel experience for passengers on the Dubai to Edinburgh route.
On January 3, 2025, Emirates introduced its advanced A350 on the highly anticipated Dubai (DXB) to Edinburgh (EDI) route. This launch features an upgraded inflight entertainment (IFE) system known as ‘ice’, showcasing cutting-edge technology tailored for travelers.
Emirates Debuts Its First Airbus A350
The inaugural flight of Emirates’ Airbus A350-900, designated EK23, took off from Dubai International Airport (DXB) at 3:26 PM local time. This aircraft replaces the Boeing 777 on the popular Dubai-Edinburgh route, which resumed operations after a four-year hiatus. EK23 successfully landed at Edinburgh Airport at 6:59 PM local time, marking a historic milestone for the airline.
Enhanced Inflight Entertainment Experience
The Emirates Airbus A350 features the innovative AVANT Up inflight entertainment system, developed in collaboration with Thales. This next-generation ‘ice’ system boasts over 30 advanced features designed to enhance the onboard experience. Key highlights include:
- 4K QLED HDR Displays: Offering ultra-responsive touchscreens for the highest picture quality, ensuring a cinematic experience in the sky.
- Advanced Connectivity: Passengers can connect up to two Bluetooth devices simultaneously, along with access to built-in Wi-Fi.
- Enhanced Charging Capabilities: The system includes 60W USB-C fast charging ports, allowing devices to remain powered throughout the flight.
- Smart User Interface: A redesigned interface enables seamless navigation through a vast catalog of entertainment options, including live TV, movies, and short video content.
Passengers can easily log into their personal accounts, save preferences, and receive tailored recommendations based on their viewing history. Additionally, the system offers real-time information such as personalized connecting gate details, creating a more seamless travel experience.
