airBaltic Debuts 50th Airbus A220-300 with Stunning Livery
airBaltic Unveils 50th Airbus A220-300: A Milestone Celebration in Mirabel
In a momentous event held in Mirabel, Canada, airBaltic officially unveiled its 50th Airbus A220-300, marking a significant milestone for the airline and its long-standing partnership with Airbus. As the launch customer of the Airbus A220-300 eight years ago, airBaltic’s celebration highlights the successful collaboration that has shaped the airline’s growth and operational efficiency.
The unveiling ceremony, which took place on February 4, 2025, showcased the new aircraft adorned with a vibrant livery. This design, created through a public competition initiated by airBaltic in 2024, features an artistic interpretation of the Latvian flag, alongside a whimsical portrayal of a girl soaring through the clouds, crowned with a traditional wreath.
A Celebration of Baltic Heritage
The new livery incorporates elements that pay homage to all three Baltic states: Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia. Creative symbols such as a ladybug, a swallow, and a stork beautifully reflect the region’s rich cultural heritage.
Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic, expressed pride in reaching this significant milestone, stating, “More than eight years ago, we became the global launch operator of the Airbus A220-300, which has since become the backbone of our operations. This milestone aircraft represents the completion of our initial order and brings us halfway to our goal of doubling in size and operating a single-type fleet of 100 A220-300s by 2030."
A Collaborative Journey
The process of designing the new livery involved considerable input from airBaltic’s loyal customers. Out of 840 design submissions, three finalists were selected based on votes from loyalty program members. Each concept was refined by airBaltic to meet the technical specifications required for the aircraft.
Benoît Schultz, CEO of Airbus Canada, commented on the partnership, saying, “As the first to have received an A220-300 eight years ago, airBaltic is one of our long-standing customers. We are pleased to celebrate the revealing of their 50th A220 and are honored to continue being the partner of choice for airBaltic as they grow their A220 fleet.”
Looking Ahead
The specially painted Airbus A220-300 is scheduled to join the airBaltic fleet later in February 2025, further enhancing the airline’s capabilities and commitment to fleet modernization.
