Gulf Air Launches New Direct Flights to London-Gatwick: Expanding Connectivity Between Bahrain and the UK

Gulf Air, the national airline of Bahrain, is set to enhance its connectivity to the UK by introducing new direct flights between Bahrain International Airport (BAH) and London-Gatwick Airport (LGW). This strategic move, aimed at bolstering its presence in the competitive UK market, will commence on March 30, 2025, coinciding with the start of the IATA summer scheduling season.

With three weekly flights scheduled, Gulf Air will utilize its modern fleet of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners for this route, which accommodates 282 passengers in a comfortable two-class configuration. This new service not only offers convenience but also reflects the growing demand for travel between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Kingdom.

Flight Details: What to Expect

  • Departure and Arrival Times: Flights will depart Bahrain at 01:45 on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, landing at London-Gatwick at 06:55 local time. The return journey will leave Gatwick at 11:25, arriving back in Bahrain at 20:00 the same day.
  • Flight Duration: The flight duration is approximately seven hours to London and about six hours back to Bahrain.
  • Distance: The route spans approximately 3,152 miles (5,043 km).

This new service effectively doubles Gulf Air’s direct offerings to London, supplementing its existing double daily flights to London-Heathrow Airport (LHR), also operated by the Boeing 787-9 fleet.

Increased Options for Travelers

A Gulf Air spokesperson stated, “This expansion reflects the growing demand for travel between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the United Kingdom, providing passengers with greater choice and convenience.” The addition of London-Gatwick to Gulf Air’s route network enhances connectivity to a broader range of destinations across the UK and beyond.

The spokesperson further emphasized, “This new route to London-Gatwick is a significant step in Gulf Air’s wider vision to expand the carrier’s network and strengthen essential links between Bahrain and the UK. We are confident this service will not only provide greater travel options for Gulf Air’s passengers but also boost trade and tourism opportunities between both nations.”

A Legacy of Service

Established in 1950 as Gulf Aviation, Gulf Air holds the title of the oldest Gulf-based airline. In 1973, it was jointly managed by the governments of Bahrain, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, and Oman before Bahrain took full control in 2007. Today, the airline operates a diverse fleet of 42 aircraft, including various Airbus models and its ten Boeing 787-9s, with plans for further expansion.
