Arajet Launches Direct B737 Flights from DR to New York
Arajet Expands U.S. Presence with New Direct Flights from Santo Domingo to New York
Arajet, the flagship airline of the Dominican Republic, is set to enhance its U.S. presence by launching direct flights from Santo Domingo to New York starting June 16, 2025. This exciting new route will connect Santo Domingo-Las Américas Airport (SDQ) with Newark-Liberty International Airport (EWR), utilizing Arajet’s modern fleet of Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
The decision to introduce this direct flight service is aimed at establishing a vital link between the Dominican Republic and the New York metropolitan area, home to the largest Dominican diaspora outside the country. The route spans 1,557 miles (2,492 km), comfortably within the operational range of the Boeing 737 MAX 8.
Announcement Highlights and Community Engagement
On March 10, 2025, Arajet made this key announcement during a special event at the Gregorio Luperón school in Washington Heights, New Jersey—a neighborhood known for its large Dominican population. Notable attendees included New York Congressman Adriano Espaillat and Dominican consuls Jesús Vázquez and José Santana from New York and New Jersey, respectively.
Victor Pacheco, CEO and founder of Arajet, emphasized the airline’s commitment to affordable air travel for both the Dominican community and American tourists. He stated, “New York is a key market to strengthen our U.S. presence. The Newark service will complement our existing routes to Miami and San Juan, Puerto Rico, positioning Arajet as the preferred airline for U.S. travelers seeking vacation options or visiting family.”
Expanding Travel Options with Arajet
To support the launch of its new service, Arajet is also promoting a variety of onward connections through its hub in Santo Domingo. This expansion will facilitate travel not just within the Caribbean but also to various destinations in Central and South America, as well as key cities in North America, including Toronto and Montreal.
Since its inception in 2022, Arajet has established bases at Las Américas Airport and Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ), operating a fleet of ten Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. Each plane is configured to accommodate eight business class and 177 economy class passengers, ensuring a comfortable travel experience.
Future Growth and Fleet Expansion
In an effort to further enhance its service capabilities, Arajet announced an agreement with BOC Aviation for the lease of five additional Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. These planes, equipped with CFM LEAP-1B engines, are expected to join the fleet in 2026 and 2027, supporting the airline’s expansion initiatives.
