Qatar Airways (QR) is poised to enhance its presence in Germany by expanding its flight network to more destinations. Unlike its competitor Emirates (EK), which is restricted to four German cities, Qatar Airways benefits from an Air Services Agreement that allows for greater flexibility and expansion. This strategic move aims to tap into the growing travel demand between Qatar and Germany.
Currently, Qatar Airways operates flights to five major German cities: Düsseldorf (DUS), Hamburg (HAM), Frankfurt (FRA), Berlin (BER), and Munich (MUC). In response to traveler preferences, many airlines are equipping their narrow-body planes with premium features, including fully flat seating in business class, ensuring high service standards are maintained. Gulf airlines like Qatar Airways are capitalizing on the focus of national carriers on hub-based long-haul flights, filling connectivity gaps to secondary markets via their Middle Eastern hubs.
