The Indian aviation sector is on the verge of a significant transformation in 2025, marked by the introduction of three new airlines: Shankh Air, Air Kerala, and Alhind Air. New Airlines in India: A Game-Changer for Air Travel

Both Air Kerala and Alhind Air will operate from Cochin International Airport (COK), focusing on enhancing connectivity within Kerala and to Gulf countries, as reported by the Free Press Journal.
All three carriers have received no-objection certificates (NOCs) from the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) in 2024 and are now awaiting final air operator certificates (AOCs) from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Shankh Air: Pioneering Full-Service Operations
Shankh Air is set to become Uttar Pradesh’s first scheduled full-service airline, connecting major cities such as Lucknow (LKO), Varanasi (VNS), and Gorakhpur (GOP) with metropolitan hubs like Delhi (DEL), Mumbai (BOM), and Bengaluru (BLR). The airline plans to start operations with two leased narrow-body aircraft by the end of March, eventually expanding its fleet to five aircraft within a year. International flights are expected to commence by 2027. Chairman Shravan Kumar Vishwakarma has committed $50 million in initial funding, with a total investment of $200 million from parent company Shankh Trading Pvt. Ltd.
“Our vision at Shankh Air is to enhance accessibility and convenience for travelers across Uttar Pradesh and beyond,” stated Vishwakarma.
Air Kerala: The First Ultra-Low-Cost Carrier
Air Kerala aims to establish itself as India’s first ultra-low-cost carrier, initiating domestic flights in 2025 and expanding to international routes by 2026. Originally conceptualized by the Kerala government in 2005, this initiative will operate under Zettfly Aviation Pvt. Ltd., led by UAE entrepreneurs Afi Ahmed and Ayub Kallada. The airline plans to utilize three ATR 72-600 aircraft, connecting Kerala’s Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities with major hubs and catering to the Malayali expatriate community in the Middle East.
Alhind Air: Transitioning from Travel to Aviation
Calicut-based Alhind Group is making a significant shift from its roots as a tour and travel agency to launch Alhind Air, a regional commuter airline. The airline will start operations with two ATR 72-600 aircraft from Cochin International Airport (COK) and aims to expand its fleet to seven aircraft within a year. Alhind Air plans to initiate international routes to Gulf countries within two years of its launch.
