ITA Airways Joins Star Alliance: Full Onboarding Begins

ITA Airways Set to Join Star Alliance: A New Era for Global Travel

ITA Airways has officially received the green light to commence its integration into the Star Alliance, one of the largest global airline networks. This significant move was confirmed by the Star Alliance Chief Executive Board (CEB), which includes the CEOs of its 25 member airlines. With this integration, ITA Airways aims to enhance its global presence and provide travelers with expanded connectivity and benefits.

Having initiated its integration with the Lufthansa Group in February 2025, ITA Airways has laid out comprehensive plans to incorporate its operations into this prestigious alliance. In an exciting update, Germany’s Lufthansa Group announced that starting summer 2025, all ITA Airways flights at Frankfurt and Munich airports will operate from Lufthansa terminals, streamlining the travel experience for passengers.

Accelerating Integration Process

On April 2, 2025, ITA Airways expressed enthusiasm about this milestone, stating that completing the integration “paves the way for its entry into the world’s largest airline alliance.” The airline emphasized that the onboarding process will now proceed at "full throttle."

Theo Panagiotoulias, CEO of Star Alliance, remarked, “In early 2026, ITA Airways is expected to officially join the Star Alliance network as a full member. This decision underscores the strong confidence our members have in ITA Airways. As a gateway for Italy, its addition strengthens our global network.”

Joerg Eberhart, the CEO and General Manager of ITA Airways, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the airline’s commitment to providing customers with the advantages of the world’s largest airline network.

Expanding Global Connectivity

Once the integration is finalized, the network will encompass 26 member airlines, offering an impressive 18,000 daily flights across 192 countries. ITA Airways will become the fifth hub airline of the Lufthansa Group to join this esteemed alliance, further enhancing travel options for passengers worldwide.

Conclusion

The integration of ITA Airways into the Star Alliance marks a pivotal moment for the airline and its customers. As travel continues to evolve, this partnership promises to deliver improved connectivity and additional privileges for flyers.
