Dassault Aviation to Open MRO Facility Near Noida Airport
Dassault Aviation Plans Major MRO Facility Near Noida International Airport
Dassault Aviation, a leading French aerospace company, is set to establish a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility near the upcoming Noida International Airport (DXN) in Jewar. This strategic move was announced by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) on Tuesday, signaling a significant development in India’s aviation sector.
The new MRO facility will cater to both military and civil aircraft, and it will also include a Centre of Excellence focused on aviation education and apprenticeship programs. “We will evaluate the proposal and have initiated communication with Dassault to assess their land requirements,” stated Arun Vir Singh, CEO of YEIDA.
Dassault Aviation’s Noida MRO Facility
The proposed MRO facility will be located within a 1,365-hectare area designated for the second phase of the Noida International Airport project. This area is intended to serve as a comprehensive aviation hub, which will include the planned Centre of Excellence.
In collaboration with the ministries of skill development and defense, Dassault aims to establish a skill development center in Uttar Pradesh. Singh elaborated, “They plan to set up a civil and military MRO, offering an aeronautical syllabus at various educational levels—high school, intermediate, and graduation, alongside skilled diplomas of two to three years.”
Additionally, Dassault intends to create a dedicated skill university that will focus on MRO operations, preparing a workforce that will contribute to the newly established facility.
A Growing Market for MRO Services
India’s MRO industry, valued at $1.7 billion in 2021, is projected to reach $7 billion by 2030, according to studies referenced by YEIDA officials. This growth reflects the increasing demand for aviation services in the region.
To attract MRO businesses, the Uttar Pradesh government has implemented specific policies, including subsidies and streamlined processes for establishing such facilities in the state. This initiative is expected to stimulate the local economy and create numerous job opportunities in the aviation sector.
Strengthening the Regional Economy
The establishment of Dassault’s MRO facility and the Centre of Excellence is part of broader efforts to develop an aviation ecosystem around Noida International Airport (DXN). This initiative aims to position the region as a significant hub for aerospace activities, including manufacturing, maintenance, and training.
YEIDA has formally requested detailed information from Dassault regarding their land requirements to ensure the allocation of suitable space for the project.
Conclusion: A Transformative Investment in Aviation
The planned Dassault Aviation facility near Noida International Airport (DXN) marks a substantial investment in India’s burgeoning aerospace sector. This development highlights several key trends:
- India is emerging as a crucial aviation hub in Asia.
- Uttar Pradesh is actively attracting foreign investment through targeted MRO subsidies.
- A strategic emphasis on simultaneously developing both civil and military aviation capabilities.
The focus on creating a dedicated skill university underscores the recognition of India’s workforce potential while addressing existing skills gaps in specialized aviation roles. This project is poised to create a ripple effect in the local economy, generating high-skilled jobs and potentially attracting additional aerospace companies to the region, transforming Jewar from a primarily agricultural area into a technology and aviation center.
