LONDON – Global Airlines (G6) is gearing up for its highly anticipated launch of long-haul flights using the iconic Airbus A380 aircraft. This UK-based carrier is set to take to the skies with its inaugural flights to New York’s JFK Airport, with departures scheduled from Glasgow, Scotland (GLA) on May 15 and Manchester (MAN) on May 21. Originally delivered to China Southern Airlines (CZ), the Airbus A380 has undergone a transformation in Portugal, where it received a fresh coat of paint reflecting Global Airlines’ distinctive livery.
- Modernized Cabin Features: While retaining the original cabin layout from China Southern Airlines, Global Airlines has enhanced the aircraft with new upholstery and carpets adorned in the company’s colors and logo.

Navigating Supply Chain Challenges
In light of some limited interior updates, Asquith addressed industry-wide supply chain challenges affecting the retrofit process. He acknowledged the difficulties airlines face in securing materials, stating, “Supply chain issues are hurting everyone… we faced delays on materials ourselves.” Despite these obstacles, Asquith expressed pride in the rapid progress made and emphasized that this is just the beginning for Global Airlines.
Operations Under Hi Fly Certificate
Initially, Global Airlines (G6) will operate under the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) of Hi Fly, a Portuguese airline specializing in ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) services. This arrangement will facilitate the launch of the A380 operations while Global Airlines works diligently to complete its own certification process.
- Ticket Sales and Launch Plans: The airline continues to sell tickets for its inaugural flights as it races against time to finalize the aircraft’s interior modifications ahead of the mid-May launch.
