Etihad Unveils Upgraded First and Business Class on A321LR

Etihad Airways Unveils Premium Cabin Experience on Airbus A321LR Fleet

DUBAI – Etihad Airways (EY) has introduced an exciting new premium cabin experience for its Airbus A321LR fleet, featuring lie-flat seats in both first and business class. Starting from August 1, this Abu Dhabi-based airline will debut its first single-aisle planes with full lie-flat premium accommodations, marking a significant enhancement in its service offerings.

The introduction of the Airbus A321LR is set to redefine premium travel on medium-haul routes, showcasing an impressive three-cabin layout designed to elevate passenger comfort.

Etihad A321LR Premium Experience

The new Etihad Airbus A321LR configuration promises a luxurious travel experience, with a focus on premium-heavy accommodations. In the front section, travelers will find two exclusive first-class suites arranged in a 1-1 configuration. These reverse herringbone seats come equipped with sliding privacy doors, companion dining options, and 20-inch 4K entertainment screens, complete with modern connectivity features like Bluetooth pairing and Qi wireless charging.

Unlike many competitors who offer a similar premium experience at a modest upcharge, Etihad is positioning these as a genuine first-class product. This strategic move ensures that premium passengers enjoy consistent luxury across different aircraft, with service aligned to their renowned wide-body experience.

Business Class Transformation

Behind the first-class cabin, Etihad will feature 14 business-class pods, also arranged in a 1-1 configuration. While these window-facing seats lack sliding doors, they provide excellent privacy, an intentional design choice made to optimize the aircraft’s range capabilities.

Business travelers will appreciate the 17.3-inch 4K screens and wireless charging capabilities available in this section. All A321LR aircraft will be equipped with Viasat satellite Wi-Fi service, enabling streaming-quality connections. Passengers in premium classes will enjoy complimentary messaging and full connectivity.

Economy Comfort Enhancements

The economy section of the A321LR will accommodate 144 passengers, with seats measuring 18.4 inches wide—among the most generous dimensions in narrow-body aircraft. Each seat includes a 13.3-inch 4K monitor and USB charging ports, while 36 seats will provide extra legroom for added comfort.

While Etihad claims these seats offer "wide-body comfort," the actual passenger experience will be assessed once the aircraft are operational.

Strategic Network Deployment

Etihad’s fleet of ten A321LRs, arriving through 2025, is set to serve three strategic purposes within the airline’s network. They will introduce premium service to markets lacking the capacity for wide-body aircraft, such as Chiang Mai (CNX) and Algiers (ALG). Additionally, these aircraft will enhance connections to premium leisure destinations within a four-hour radius of Abu Dhabi, including the Seychelles (SEZ). Finally, they will increase frequency on business routes like Paris (CDG), where additional capacity is in demand.

This significant enhancement to the narrow-body cabin is just a preview of broader changes planned for Etihad’s entire fleet. The airline has confirmed a comprehensive “billion-dollar” refurbishment program for its Boeing 787-9, 787-10, and 777 aircraft, with more details expected in the coming months. Furthermore, updates to the exclusive Residence cabin on Airbus A380 aircraft will be announced by year-end.

These investments align with Etihad’s “Journey 2030” vision, focusing on fleet expansion, passenger growth, and network development.
