Avianca Secures Deal for 9 Airbus A320neos with BOC Aviation
Avianca Expands Fleet with New Airbus A320neo Acquisition
Colombia’s leading airline, Avianca, has made a significant move to enhance its fleet by reaching an agreement with BOC Aviation for the acquisition of nine Airbus A320neo aircraft. This strategic partnership is set to bolster Avianca’s operations and improve its service offerings, aligning with the airline’s ongoing commitment to providing efficient air travel. The deal, confirmed on June 5, 2026, marks an important step in Avianca’s fleet renewal strategy.
Avianca’s Fleet Expansion Plans
The Singapore-based lessor, BOC Aviation, announced that deliveries of the nine A320neo aircraft are scheduled to begin in 2027. This agreement comes as Avianca seeks to strengthen its existing lineup of A320neo jets, which are known for their fuel efficiency and modern technology.
- Current Fleet Status: Avianca is already expecting the arrival of 78 Airbus A320neo jets from previous agreements.
- Past Orders: In March 2022, the airline secured a deal for 88 A320neo aircraft, with options for an additional 50 units. Deliveries for this larger order are expected to start in 2025 and conclude by 2031.
Strategic Importance of the Agreement
Francisco Raddatz, Chief Procurement Officer of ABRA Group, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with BOC Aviation. He stated, “We are pleased to reaffirm our strategic relationship with BOC Aviation through this agreement. This transaction supports our fleet renewal strategy and our commitment to operating modern, fuel-efficient aircraft.”
BOC Aviation’s Role in Avianca’s Growth
Steven Townend, CEO of BOC Aviation, highlighted the importance of this collaboration, saying, “We are pleased to be working again with Avianca as it expands its network in the rapidly growing Latin American markets.” He noted that these new deliveries will position BOC Aviation well for future growth, as the company continues to expand its fleet of the latest generation aircraft.
Future Prospects
In addition to the agreement with Avianca, BOC Aviation has also committed to purchasing nine A320neo aircraft for Gulf Air, further demonstrating its role as a key player in the aviation leasing market.
