Boeing and WestJet Finalize Historic Agreement for 67 New Dreamliners

WestJet, in collaboration with Boeing, has made a groundbreaking move by placing the largest aircraft order in its history, acquiring 67 new jets. This decision is a significant step towards the airline’s strategy for fleet renewal and expansion.

The announcement, made on September 3, 2025, includes an order for 60 737-10 aircraft with an option to add 25 more, as well as seven 787-9 Dreamliners, which also come with an option for four additional jets. With this latest agreement, WestJet’s firm order book with Boeing now totals 123 aircraft.

“This expansion equips WestJet with the largest order book of any Canadian airline and allows us to double our Dreamliner fleet,” stated Alexis von Hoensbroech, the CEO of WestJet. He emphasized that these modern, fuel-efficient aircraft are essential for the airline’s growth and renewal strategy, significantly bolstering their fuel economy.

The Calgary-based carrier aims to utilize the expanded fleet of Dreamliners to enhance its international routes, particularly focusing on destinations across Europe, Asia, and Latin America. The introduction of the new 737-10s will also strengthen its domestic and cross-border flights, providing more seating capacity while maintaining the lowest cost per seat among single-aisle aircraft.

Boeing noted that this order signifies the ongoing collaboration with WestJet, which has flourished since 1996 when WestJet initially operated just three 737 aircraft.
