Etihad Launches Seasonal Route from Abu Dhabi to Palma This Summer

In an unexpected announcement, Etihad Airways, based in Abu Dhabi, revealed plans to launch a new route connecting its hub to Palma de Mallorca in Spain’s Balearic Islands. The airline is set to introduce this service, operating three times a week, using its new Airbus A321LR fleet starting in the summer of 2026.

The addition of Palma de Mallorca marks the 29th new destination for Etihad in 2025 and stands as the only direct link between Asia and Palma, facilitating access to Ibiza and other islands in the Balearic archipelago. The service will commence on June 12, 2026, and will run until mid-September 2026, with flights operating from Abu Dhabi-Zayed International Airport (AUH) to Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI).

Flights will depart from Abu Dhabi on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 02:55, arriving in Palma at 08:55 local time. The return flight, also on the same days, will leave Palma at 10:30, reaching Abu Dhabi by 19:00. This route spans 3,172 miles (5,076 km).

According to the airline’s statement, the introduction of this new route provides travelers with a gateway to “golden beaches, turquoise waters, and vibrant Spanish culture.” Palma, the capital of the Balearic Islands, seamlessly blends cosmopolitan charm with Mediterranean allure.

Travelers can enjoy the Gothic architecture of La Seu Cathedral, stroll through the historic old town, or unwind at one of the island’s luxurious resorts. Mallorca offers a delightful mix of culinary experiences, from tapas in quaint squares to sailing across its stunning coast, making it a perfect summer destination.

“Palma de Mallorca is an exciting addition to our summer itinerary,” stated Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways. “With its marinas, vibrant nightlife, secluded beaches, and historical towns, Mallorca has something for every type of traveler. We are eager to connect our guests from Abu Dhabi and beyond to this enchanting Balearic island – the ultimate summer getaway on our new A321LR.”

Details about Etihad’s A321LR Fleet

All flights to Palma will utilize Etihad’s new Airbus A321LR aircraft, the first of which was delivered in July 2025, with two additional units following. This marks the beginning of an expansion plan that includes 30 A321LR airplanes joining the fleet over the coming years.

The A321LR provides a widebody experience for short and medium-haul flights, featuring premium cabins usually reserved for longer journeys. These aircraft also offer enhanced storage with larger overhead bins, allowing for more luggage space compared to traditional narrowbody planes.

With its inaugural flights, Etihad highlighted that the aircraft includes its first narrowbody First Suites. These private cabins feature sliding doors and fully flat beds. Window suites come equipped with a 20-inch 4K screen, Bluetooth connectivity, wireless charging, and additional space for companions.

The A321LR’s business class features 14 seats arranged in a spacious 1-1 herringbone layout, ensuring each passenger has direct aisle access and a view from the window. These seats are fitted with 17.3-inch 4K screens, Bluetooth pairing, and wireless charging capabilities.

“Our A321LR redefines single-aisle travel by offering the luxury of a widebody experience,” the airline emphasized. “First Class passengers can enjoy private suites that include fine dining and exceptional comfort. Business Class features fully lie-flat beds in an exclusive layout, while Economy offers a serene cabin with modern seating, generous legroom, and personal entertainment at each seat.”
