American Airlines 777 Centennial Livery

As the official 100th anniversary approaches, American Airlines is bringing back a classic style that pays homage to its legacy.

The Flagship livery harmoniously merges the airline’s classic Silver Eagle® color scheme with a striking orange lightning bolt, first introduced nearly 90 years ago on the Douglas DC-3.

This retro design not only evokes nostalgia but also signifies American’s innovative journey and its global influence in aviation today.

The livery marks a celebration of the airline’s extensive evolution—from its early DC-3 routes to a vast international network that spans destinations in Australia, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

The name Flagship DFW pays tribute to the airline’s Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) hub and features a historic roundel showing an eagle, symbolizing American Airlines’ wide-reaching legacy across more than 350 destinations.

The Flagship Suite® seating made its debut earlier this year on the Boeing 787-9 and will now be incorporated into the revamped 777-300 fleet in 2025.

A Look Back, and Ahead

The upcoming centennial celebration is not limited to the skies; the ground experience is also being refreshed. American’s Brand Store will showcase exclusive heritage merchandise like vintage posters, retro logos, and limited-edition centennial items.

The airline plans to continuously expand this collection over the course of its 100th year, allowing fans of aviation and travelers to cherish this significant milestone.

American Airlines’ approach to this livery stands out from other airlines’ centennial designs, which tend to be more subtle, like Delta’s Airbus A350 or Lufthansa’s Boeing 787. By revisiting its historical motifs, American delivers a striking tribute that feels authentic and progressive.

Celebrating Legacy Through Design

American Airlines has consistently excelled in depicting its legacy through visual design. The fleet includes numerous 737s adorned with retro liveries that represent its predecessor airlines, like Reno Air and America West.

The introduction of this new Flagship Boeing 777-300 reinforces that tradition, merging history with innovation as the airline embarks on its second century of aviation.

Are you excited to see the new design and experience the enhanced onboard amenities with American Airlines?
