Iberia Introduces Direct Flights from Madrid to Monterrey, Mexico
Iberia, the prominent Spanish airline and a member of the International Airlines Group (IAG), is expanding its presence in Latin America. The company has announced a new nonstop route connecting Madrid-Barajas (MAD) to Monterrey, Mexico (MTY).
This new service will operate three times a week, starting on June 2, 2025. Flights will leave Madrid at 12:55 PM on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, returning from Monterrey on the same days at 6:50 PM, all in local time. Passengers will utilize Terminal A at Monterrey International Airport.
For this route, Iberia is opting for the Airbus A330-200, a wide-body aircraft featuring 288 seats—19 in business class and 269 in economy. This choice comes as the airline recently introduced its Airbus A321XLR to launch various long-haul routes.
Iberia will face competition from Aeromexico on the Madrid-Monterrey route. Aeromexico, part of the SkyTeam alliance, currently flies daily between the two cities using a Boeing 787-9.
Monterrey serves as the capital of Nuevo León and ranks as Mexico’s third-largest city. It is also recognized as an economic and industrial center in northern Mexico.
The Mexican market holds significant importance for Iberia, which already operates three daily nonstop flights to Mexico City International Airport (MEX) using Airbus A350 aircraft. With the inclusion of Monterrey, Iberia anticipates providing nearly 800,000 seats annually between Spain and Mexico.
