Alaska Airlines Faces IT Outage Due to Microsoft Azure Glitches
Alaska Airlines has recently experienced another IT outage, leading to disruptions of its website and temporarily impacting online check-in for travelers. This incident marks the airline’s second IT-related issue in October 2025.
The latest outage was mainly associated with a worldwide disruption of Microsoft Azure, the platform that hosts numerous Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines services. This interruption affected vital systems, including the airline’s websites.
Alaska Airlines communicated that they were working to restore impacted systems by that afternoon, stating that other services would resume once Microsoft resolved the underlying issues. They expressed sincere apologies for any inconvenience passengers faced and appreciated their understanding during this challenging time.
Due to this situation, numerous passengers were unable to check in online for their flights. The airline recommended that these travelers consult an agent at the airport for boarding passes and allocate additional time in the lobby.
Although Alaska Airlines did not clarify whether the outage directly impacted flight schedules, many travelers took to social media to voice their concerns about the airline’s operations and urged the company to enhance its systems against cyber threats.
Microsoft Azure reported that the disruption stemmed from an “inadvertent tenant configuration change,” which caused extensive service interruptions across their platform. While error rates and latencies have mainly returned to normal, Microsoft is still addressing residual issues and has implemented additional measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Earlier in 2025, Alaska Airlines faced two significant IT outages: one in July that grounded flights for about three hours, and another from October 23–24, which resulted in a system-wide halt affecting over 229 flight cancellations and around 100 fewer aircraft operating across the country.
