IAG Launches Starlink High-Speed Wi-Fi on Over 500 Aircraft by 2026
H2: High-Speed In-Flight Connectivity Coming to IAG Airlines
International Airlines Group (IAG) has revealed an exciting collaboration with Starlink, aiming to equip over 500 aircraft within its fleet with top-notch satellite Wi-Fi starting in early 2026. This initiative will encompass both short-haul and long-haul flights, making IAG the leading European airline group in offering enhanced in-flight connectivity.
H3: Enhancing Passenger Experience
The partnership will extend to aircraft operated by Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, LEVEL, and Vueling. Passengers can expect download and upload speeds akin to home broadband, which will facilitate smooth video streaming, online gaming, and cloud-based work with minimal disruption.
As of December 2024, IAG’s operational fleet consisted of 601 aircraft, and the new service will be available on all active planes that are not slated for immediate retirement.
H3: Leadership’s Vision for Connectivity
Luis Gallego, CEO of IAG, emphasized the significance of connectivity for travelers. “Staying connected in the skies is increasingly important to our airlines’ customers,” he stated. “The introduction of high-speed Wi-Fi from Starlink will transform onboard connectivity, vastly enhancing both speed and reliability for customers. Next year, passengers across all IAG airlines will reap the benefits of this service.”
H3: Cutting-Edge Technology
Starlink, developed by SpaceX, is known for its impressive technology, providing download speeds ranging from 150 to 450 Mbps and upload speeds between 20 to 70 Mbps. This performance far surpasses that of most current in-flight systems.
H2: Part of a Larger Strategy
This connectivity initiative is a vital component of IAG’s broader strategy focused on innovation and digital transformation. The group is also leveraging artificial intelligence to streamline engine maintenance and supports aviation-related startups through the IAGi venturing fund.
Upon completion of this rollout, IAG is poised to take the lead in Europe for high-speed in-flight connectivity coverage.
