IndiGo Partners with China Southern to Resume India-China Flights

IndiGo, recognized as India’s rapidly expanding airline, has launched daily non-stop flights between Delhi and Guangzhou, starting November 10, 2025. These flights utilize the airline’s A320neo fleet and operate in both directions every day.

Recent diplomatic strides aimed at enhancing relations between India and China—after a five-year gap—paved the way for this announcement. On October 2, 2025, IndiGo disclosed plans to resume services between the two nations, intending to initiate daily non-stop flights from Kolkata to Guangzhou on October 26, 2025. The addition of direct flights from Delhi to Guangzhou is a significant development in their international operations.

The objective behind the resumption is to reinforce opportunities for cross-border trade, foster strategic business collaborations, and promote tourism. IndiGo emphasized that this new route strengthens connectivity between India and China, linking the Indian capital with Guangzhou, an essential manufacturing and business hub in Southern China. With this enhancement, IndiGo now offers flights from Delhi to 21 international destinations, highlighting Delhi’s strategic significance in global connectivity.

Flights departing from Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in Delhi will operate as 6E1701, leaving at 21:45 and reaching Guangzhou-Baiyun Airport (CAN) at 04:50 local time the following day. The return leg, numbered 6E1702, takes off from Guangzhou at 05:50, landing in Delhi at 10:10.

Pieter Elbers, IndiGo’s Chief Executive Officer, expressed enthusiasm about this new route. He stated, “Following our successful Kolkata to Guangzhou flights, we are excited to further our presence in China with daily connections from Delhi. This route not only boosts travel options but also promotes cultural and economic exchanges between both nations. Additionally, it links Guangzhou to IndiGo’s expansive domestic network of over 90 destinations, enhancing accessibility for Chinese travelers throughout India.”

New codeshare with China Southern

With the restoration of direct air routes between India and China, IndiGo announced a codeshare agreement with China Southern Airlines. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed on November 11, laying the groundwork for this partnership.

This collaboration will enhance travel connectivity for customers of both Airlines. China Southern Airlines can offer improved access into India, while IndiGo passengers can leverage the extensive network of China Southern beyond Guangzhou. This agreement awaits regulatory approvals.

According to IndiGo’s statement, “The partnership aims to improve travel options and create integrated travel itineraries for clients journeying between India and China. Additional details will follow soon.”

Elbers noted, “We’re thrilled to partner with China Southern Airlines to improve connectivity between our countries.” He highlighted the successful reinstatement of the Kolkata-Guangzhou flights and the initiation of the new Delhi-Guangzhou service.

Han Wensheng, President and CEO of China Southern Airlines, remarked on the importance of the Indian market and the potential for mutual growth through their cooperation. This collaboration aims to produce a broader array of travel options and rejuvenate economic, cultural, and aviation exchanges between India and China.
