Qatar Airways Adds Airbus A350 to Gatwick and Manila Routes
Qatar Airways plans to deploy Airbus A350 aircraft on key international routes starting in early 2025, enhancing passenger experience and modernizing its fleet. The airline will introduce the A350-900 on the Doha to London Gatwick route from February 2 to March 28, 2025, and transition the Doha to Manila route to the A350-1000 starting March 30, 2025. Additionally, the A350-900 will be used for one of the two daily flights to Hong Kong beginning January 2025, while flights to Geneva will be reduced to five weekly. Bahamasair Considers Airbus A220 to Replace 737
Bahamasair is considering upgrading its fleet by ordering Airbus A220 aircraft to replace its aging Boeing 737-700 jets. CEO Tracy Cooper announced this potential acquisition at the Routes Americas conference, aiming to enhance operational efficiency with a projected 13-15% cost improvement. The airline plans to order eight to ten A220s, which could be leased, to expand its reach across the U.S. and Latin America. The A220’s superior range and capacity would facilitate new routes, further supporting Bahamasair’s crucial role in the Bahamian economy and tourism sector, which welcomed 11 million visitors in 2024.
DGCA Mandates Closed Window Shades at Defense Airports
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in India has introduced a new directive mandating that passenger window shades remain closed during takeoff and landing at defense airfields until the aircraft reaches 10,000 feet. This regulation, effective from May 20, aims to enhance security at military and civilian airports, particularly near the western border. Airlines must develop operating procedures for compliance and inform passengers about restrictions on photography and videography.
