Vietjet Thailand Welcomes First Boeing 737-8 in $32B Growth Initiative

Vietjet Thailand, a subsidiary of the budget airline Vietjet, has proudly received its inaugural Boeing 737-8. This event represents a notable advancement in the airline’s ambitious plan to expand its fleet across the Asia-Pacific region, a venture worth $32 billion.

The aircraft was delivered on November 22, 2025, at Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) in Bangkok. This Boeing 737-8 is part of a larger order that includes a total of 50 such planes, aimed at bolstering Vietjet Thailand’s operations.

Back in 2018, Vietjet placed the order for these aircraft. By May 2025, the airline confirmed that the initial batch would be allocated to its Thai branch, with the whole delivery process set to wrap up by 2031.

Vietjet heralded this milestone on November 23, 2025, emphasizing its role in optimizing the airline’s fleet according to market demands. The company also highlighted its commitment to enhancing operational efficiency and fostering sustainable growth in global aviation.

On the same day, Vietjet Thailand announced that the new Boeing 737-8 is engineered for advanced performance and is compatible with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), which can minimize CO2 emissions by 15-20%. This aligns perfectly with the airline’s “Fly Green” initiative and showcases its dedication to sustainability in the aviation industry.

The expansion is designed to cater to rising travel demand and enhance network connectivity across key Asia-Pacific destinations. Vietjet Thailand plans to roll out new direct flights in the coming months to cities like Tokyo (Narita), Osaka, and Cam Ranh, utilizing the newly acquired Boeing 737-8.

This aircraft will serve exclusively for operations under Vietjet Thailand, while flights within Vietnam will continue using the existing Airbus fleet. Interestingly, in September 2025, Vietjet marked a significant moment by receiving its first non-Airbus plane, another Boeing 737-8, intended for its high-demand regional routes.
