American Airlines Expands with 6 New International Routes for Summer 2026

FORT WORTH– American Airlines (AA) is set to introduce six new international routes in the summer of 2026. This expansion will enhance its global footprint with nonstop flights to various destinations in Europe and South America. New services will include routes to Budapest (BUD), Prague (PRG), Athens (ATH), Milan (MXP), and Zurich (ZRH), alongside extended service to Buenos Aires (EZE).

Key departure hubs for these flights will be Philadelphia (PHL), Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), and Miami (MIA), utilizing Boeing 787-8 and 777-300 aircraft. Travelers can start booking their tickets on August 11 through aa.com and the American Airlines app.

New International Routes from American Airlines

American Airlines will begin its seasonal service to Budapest (BUD) and Prague (PRG) from Philadelphia (PHL) starting May 21, 2026. These routes signify the airline’s inaugural flights to the Hungarian capital, marking a significant footprint in Central Europe. The service will run daily using the Boeing 787-8.

Additionally, daily seasonal flights from DFW to Athens (ATH) and Zurich (ZRH) will be offered, utilizing the Boeing 787-8 and 777-200, respectively. American will also extend its Buenos Aires (EZE) service from DFW through the peak summer period from May 21 to August 3, 2026.

Lastly, Miami will gain a year-round daily service to Milan (MXP), commencing March 29, 2026, bolstering American’s dominance at the MIA hub.

Enhancing Connections to Central Europe

The introduction of routes to Budapest and Prague highlights the increasing demand for leisure and cultural travel in this region.

As a significant transatlantic hub, Philadelphia will offer nonstop access to both cities, known for their historic architecture and stunning riverside views.

This summer, PHL will serve 20 transatlantic destinations. American Airlines is positioning these routes as perfect for travelers who wish to visit one city and return from another, allowing for a multi-stop travel experience.

Newly renovated amenities, such as the Flagship® Lounge and Admirals Club® Lounge at PHL, provide travelers with quality food, drinks, and breathtaking views.

Growth in Southern Europe Destinations

The new flights from DFW to Athens will make it the fifth U.S. city connected by nonstop service to the Greek capital, showcasing American’s leadership in U.S.-Greece travel.

The Miami to Milan route will enhance connectivity between two fashionable cities, complementing existing flights to Rome (FCO). This move supports ongoing growth at MIA, where American is the leading airline.

Overall, these developments will result in American offering a record total of 18 daily flights from the U.S. to Italy and Greece in the summer of 2026.

Special Services for Sports Enthusiasts

To facilitate attendance at global sporting events in 2026, American Airlines will provide limited-time summer service from DFW to Zurich (ZRH). Additionally, they will increase flight frequencies from DFW and MIA to Buenos Aires (EZE).

Seasonal flights between ZRH and DFW will run from May 21 to August 4, offering unmatched nonstop connectivity between these cities. The Buenos Aires service will ramp up, featuring up to three daily flights from Miami during peak summer.

Increased Premium Service to Tokyo

American Airlines is also enhancing its service to Tokyo Haneda (HND). Starting March 29, 2026, DFW will feature daily flights on the 777-300ER, and Los Angeles (LAX) will increase to twice-daily flights on the 777-200.

Compared to the previous summer, premium cabin seating to Tokyo will grow by over 45%, improving overall comfort and amenities.

All long-haul flights to Asia will provide premium Business amenities, including pajamas, mattress pads, multi-course meals, and award-winning wine selections.
