Philippine Airlines Welcomes Southeast Asia’s First A350-1000 Widebody
Philippine Airlines (PAL) made waves in aviation by welcoming its inaugural Airbus A350-1000 in Manila on December 20, 2025. This landmark event establishes PAL as the first airline in Southeast Asia and the tenth globally to operate this advanced long-range aircraft variant.
This delivery is a pivotal moment in PAL’s strategy for fleet modernization and global expansion, as the airline anticipates receiving an additional eight A350-1000s in its ongoing fleet development efforts.
During a handover ceremony in Toulouse, France, PAL Holdings President Lucio Tan III, along with several senior executives—including PAL Board Advisor Kyle Tan, PAL President Richard Nuttall, and Chief Operating Officer Carlos Luis Fernandez—officially accepted the aircraft from Airbus, marking over 40 years of partnership.
“The arrival of the A350-1000 signifies a major commitment to fleet modernization and network expansion,” commented Tan. “This aircraft will not only be a source of pride for Filipinos but also a transformative step for our airline.”
The A350-1000 is designed with a three-class configuration, accommodating 382 passengers: 42 in Business Class, 24 in Premium Economy, and 316 in Economy. PAL plans to utilize this aircraft on its transpacific routes, enhancing connectivity to key destinations in North America with non-stop flights.
Equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 turbofan engines, each generating up to 97,000 pounds of thrust, the A350-1000 boasts improved operational efficiency and reliability. It offers a 25% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to older models and supports the use of sustainable aviation fuel.
With this new addition, PAL’s fleet has expanded to 82 aircraft, complementing its existing A350-900s that operate US routes. This enhancement supports PAL’s strategy to fortify its widebody fleet for long-haul operations while elevating passenger experiences and operational effectiveness.
The A350 family integrates cutting-edge aerodynamics, modern technology, and lightweight materials. Its Airspace cabin design features spacious seating, high ceilings, and ambient lighting, creating a comfortable environment for long-haul travelers.
