Etihad Airways Launches Historic A380 Service to Singapore

Singapore – Etihad Airways (EY) has reached a significant milestone as its Airbus A380 landed at Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) for the first time on February 2, 2025. This inaugural flight not only strengthens the connectivity between the UAE and Singapore but also enhances the airline’s global network. With the introduction of the A380, travelers can now experience increased capacity and premium services on this vital route.

The inaugural flight, EY498, took off from Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport (AUH) on February 1 at 22:31, completing a journey of 6 hours and 57 minutes before arriving in Singapore. The return flight left from Singapore Changi at 19:44 the next day, landing back in Abu Dhabi at 22:33.

A380 Enhances Travel Experience

The introduction of the Airbus A380 to Singapore significantly boosts the weekly seat capacity by over 700, marking a 28% increase in available seats. The aircraft features a total of 486 seats, including:

  • The Residence: The world’s only three-room suite in the sky.
  • Nine First Apartments: Luxurious private suites with exclusive amenities.
  • 70 Business Studios: Enhanced comfort tailored for business travelers.
  • 405 Economy Smart Seats: Designed for a superior travel experience.

Additionally, the upper deck includes The Lobby, an exclusive lounge area for First and Business class passengers. This upgrade aligns with Etihad’s broader strategy to increase flight frequencies and enhance aircraft offerings on key international routes.

Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer of Etihad Airways, stated, “Bringing the A380 to Singapore, along with our broader network expansion plans—including increased frequency on key routes—demonstrates our strong growth momentum in Asia. • Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG)

Currently, Etihad operates six A380s, underscoring its commitment to enhancing passenger experiences on high-demand routes.
