Cathay Pacific Resumes Flights from Hong Kong to Adelaide in 2025

Cathay Pacific is set to enhance its connectivity by resuming flights between Hong Kong and Adelaide, Australia, with a new seasonal service commencing on November 11, 2025. This exciting development marks Adelaide as the airline’s eighth passenger destination in the Southwest Pacific region, offering travelers greater options for international travel.

The non-stop flights will cover a distance of 4,256 miles (6,810 km) between Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) and Adelaide International Airport (ADL). According to a Cathay Pacific statement, this winter seasonal service is vital for maintaining strong connections between its home hub and the vibrant South Australian capital, enriching the travel choices available to customers journeying between Hong Kong and the Southwest Pacific.

Expanded Southwest Pacific Connections

Adelaide joins a growing portfolio of destinations served by Cathay Pacific in the Southwest Pacific. In addition to the new flights, the airline operates year-round services to major cities including Auckland, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney, alongside winter seasonal services to Cairns and Christchurch.

The new service to Adelaide will utilize Cathay Pacific’s fleet of 30 Airbus A350-900 aircraft. These modern planes offer a comfortable travel experience, featuring fully flat beds in Business Class, as well as premium economy and economy cabins that accommodate 28, 38, and 214 passengers, respectively.

Flight Schedule and Details

The Cathay Pacific flight CX173 will depart from Hong Kong at 23:30 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, arriving in Adelaide at 10:30 the following day. Return flights, designated as CX174, will leave Adelaide at 12:00, landing back in Hong Kong at 17:40 on the same day. Please note that all flights remain subject to regulatory approval.

Lavinia Lau, Cathay Pacific’s Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, expressed enthusiasm about reconnecting with Adelaide: “This city is significant to us, as we first launched passenger flights there in 1992 and have been training our cadet pilots in the region for over three decades. Our return means we will be operating nearly 90 return flights weekly to eight destinations in the Southwest Pacific this winter season.”

Enhanced Cargo Services

In addition to passenger travel, the new flights will also improve options for cargo customers by providing belly capacity on the aircraft. This complements Cathay Cargo’s existing two return freighter flights per week to the Southwest Pacific during the winter season.

Future Expansion Plans

Cathay Pacific and its low-cost carrier, HK Express, are gearing up for an expansive 2025, adding 16 new destinations to their global network. By mid-2025, the Cathay Group aims to reach a milestone of 100 passenger destinations worldwide. This year alone, Cathay Pacific has introduced non-stop services to Hyderabad, Dallas, and Urumqi, with more destinations such as Rome and Munich set to launch in June and August, respectively, culminating in the Adelaide service in November.
