Vietnam Airlines Expands International Flight Network: New Destinations on the Horizon
HANOI – Vietnam Airlines (VN), the nation’s flag carrier, is set to broaden its international footprint by launching new flights to several exciting destinations. As part of its growth strategy, the airline is eyeing routes to Europe, North America, Australia, and Asia, which could significantly enhance connectivity for travelers.
Currently, Vietnam Airlines operates flights to five major cities in Europe, three in Australia, and one in the United States, along with connections to two cities in South Asia. The airline’s ambitious plans for expansion reflect its commitment to providing enhanced travel options for passengers.
Vietnam Airlines International Expansion Plans
Vietnam Airlines operates a robust network with 91 routes, including 34 domestic and 57 international destinations. The airline connects Vietnam to 54 locations worldwide and has successfully transported 24.1 million passengers and 230,000 tonnes of cargo in 2024.
New Routes in Europe
Among the potential new destinations, Vietnam Airlines is considering Copenhagen (CPH) in Denmark. Currently, the airline offers flights from Hanoi to London (LHR) three times weekly, Paris (CDG) four times a week, and Frankfurt (FRA) five times a week, among others.
In a recent announcement, the airline confirmed plans to launch flights to Milan (MXP) three times a week, starting in July 2025. This new route would make Milan the sixth European city served by Vietnam Airlines.
Expanding Reach in Australia
Vietnam Airlines has established a solid presence in Australia, offering daily flights to Sydney (SYD) and Melbourne (MEL), as well as three weekly flights to Perth (PER). The airline is now exploring Darwin (DRW) as a potential new destination, further enhancing its Australian offerings.
North America Ambitions
In North America, Vietnam Airlines currently operates flights to San Francisco (SFO) three times a week. The airline is also eyeing flights to Los Angeles (LAX) and Seattle (SEA), as well as considering routes to Vancouver (YVR), marking its first foray into the Canadian market.
Exploring New Destinations in Asia
In Asia, Vietnam Airlines is evaluating opportunities in Dubai (DXB), Bangalore (BLR), and Dhaka (DAC). This marks the airline’s first exploration into Bangladesh and the Middle East. Currently, Vietnam Airlines operates flights to Delhi (DEL) and Mumbai (BOM), indicating strong potential for growth in the Indian market.
New Routes Launched in 2024
In 2024, Vietnam Airlines has already launched new routes to enhance its reach in both Europe and Southeast Asia. The airline has added flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Munich (MUC), as well as new routes to Phnom Penh (PNH) in Cambodia and Kuala Lumpur (KUL) in Malaysia. Additionally, domestic expansions include new services to Da Lat, Buon Ma Thuot, and Can Tho from Da Nang (DAD).
Vietnam Airlines is clearly on a path of growth, and these new international routes promise to offer travelers more options and connections than ever before.
