Korean Air Launches Premium Economy and Upgraded Lounges
Korean Air Enhances Travel Experience with Premium Economy Class and Lounge Upgrades
Korean Air is set to elevate its passenger experience by introducing a new premium economy class and upgrading airport lounges at key locations, including Seoul’s Incheon Airport (ICN), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) in New York. This strategic move is part of the airline’s broader “service enhancement strategy,” aimed at meeting the growing demand for premium travel options.
Following the recent rebranding and the unveiling of a new aircraft livery after merging with Asiana Airlines, Korean Air is focused on providing travelers with more comfortable and enjoyable flying experiences.
New Premium Economy Class Launch
Korean Air’s initiative to launch a premium economy product is a direct response to the increasing market demand for this type of seating. The airline plans to retrofit 11 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft by removing first-class cabins to make way for the new premium economy class.
- Timeline: The first retrofitted aircraft is expected to enter service in the second half of 2025, featuring a three-class configuration that includes Prestige (business), premium economy, and economy.
- Expansion: Fleet modifications will continue through 2026, broadening the availability of premium economy across more routes.
Upgrading Airport Lounges for Enhanced Comfort
In addition to the new seating class, Korean Air is also enhancing its airport lounges. Starting August 2025, the airline will renovate and expand lounges at Incheon International Airport Terminal 2.
- New Lounges: The introduction of “Prestige Class Garden Lounges” in both the east and west wings will cater to the increased passenger traffic, particularly following Asiana Airlines’ relocation to Terminal 2.
- Expansion Details:
- The existing Prestige Class Lounge in the east wing will double in size.
- The Miler Club Lounge will also undergo expansion.
- These upgrades will be rolled out in phases starting in August 2025.
By April 2026, the First Class Lounge and Prestige Class Lounge in the west wing will complete their renovations, allowing Korean Air to operate a total of six lounges at Incheon. This expansion will increase overall lounge space by 2.5 times and double seating capacity.
Revamping Lounges at LAX and JFK
Korean Air is also committed to enhancing its lounge experience at international hubs like LAX and JFK. The lounges will undergo a complete overhaul, incorporating city-themed designs that reflect the local culture and ambiance.
Conclusion
With these significant upgrades to its premium economy class and airport lounges, Korean Air is poised to provide travelers with an enhanced and more comfortable flying experience. As the airline continues to adapt to market demands, passengers can look forward to improved services that cater to their needs.
