Azerbaijan Airlines to Launch Direct Baku-Ahmedabad Flights in July 2025

In a significant development for international travel, Azerbaijan Airlines (J2) will commence direct flights between Baku (GYD) and Ahmedabad (AMD) starting in July 2025. This much-anticipated service will become the airline’s third Indian destination, adding to its existing routes to Delhi and Mumbai. The introduction of these direct flights marks a strategic move to bolster connectivity between Azerbaijan and key Indian cities, catering to both tourism and business travelers.

The new Baku-Ahmedabad route promises to enhance air travel between Gujarat—a western Indian state—and the Caucasus region. This initiative aims to attract tourists, business travelers, and the expansive Gujarati diaspora eager to explore Azerbaijan and nearby destinations.

Expanding in India

The introduction of flights to Ahmedabad underscores Azerbaijan Airlines’ commitment to expanding its footprint in South Asia. Currently, the airline operates flights to Delhi (DEL) three times a week and Mumbai (BOM) four times weekly, all using A320neo aircraft. With the addition of Ahmedabad, the airline will serve three major Indian cities with a total of 11 weekly flights, reflecting its confidence in the growing Indian market.

The surge in Indian travelers to Azerbaijan, driven by tourism, business engagements, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) activities, significantly influences this expansion. The recent introduction of e-visas and enhanced cultural exchange initiatives between both nations further boosts demand for air travel.

Ahmedabad, as the largest city in Gujarat, serves as a crucial economic and cultural center in western India. The new flights are expected to positively impact the region’s outbound travel market, particularly among families and affluent leisure travelers.

Final Thoughts

The launch of the Baku-Ahmedabad service represents a pivotal milestone for Azerbaijan Airlines. This new route not only enhances travel options for passengers but also strengthens the cultural and economic ties between India and Azerbaijan. With an increasing demand for flights, both Delhi and Mumbai may soon experience a rise in flight frequencies. As Azerbaijan Airlines continues to expand its Indian network, it’s expected that more cities will gain direct access to Baku in the near future.
