Emirates Airline Expands Fleet of Retrofitted Aircraft to 8 New Destinations
Dubai, UAE – Emirates Airline (EK), the flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates, is set to enhance its fleet of retrofitted aircraft, adding an impressive eight new destinations to its service lineup. This initiative aims to provide travelers with an upgraded cabin experience, showcasing Emirates’ commitment to passenger comfort and innovation.
The airline will deploy its refreshed Airbus A380s to popular routes including Bangkok (BKK), Hong Kong (HKG), Nice (NCE), and Perth (PER). Meanwhile, upgraded Boeing 777s will service Madrid (MAD), Kuala Lumpur (KUL), Phuket (HKT), and Frankfurt (FRA). Additionally, starting December 1, 2025, Emirates will introduce its first long-range Airbus A350 to Adelaide (ADL), underscoring Australia’s significance in the airline’s expansive network. With this latest expansion, Emirates will now serve over 70 destinations with its refurbished aircraft and new A350s.
Emirates Retrofitted A380 and 777 Routes
Emirates’ retrofit program is progressing at an impressive rate, with engineering teams completing aircraft upgrades every three weeks. Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, stated that this expansion positions Emirates as a leader in Premium Economy seating, offering a distinct advantage in the competitive aviation market.
The deployment schedule for the retrofitted aircraft includes:
- Bangkok (BKK): Refreshed A380 on flights EK372/373 starting July 1, 2025
- Hong Kong (HKG): First four-class A380 with updated interiors on EK380/381 from October 1
- Nice (NCE): Introduction of Premium Economy on EK077/078 from October 15
- Perth (PER): Latest-generation A380 on EK420/421 from October 26
- Madrid (MAD): Enhanced Boeing 777 interiors on EK143/144 from October 15
- Kuala Lumpur (KUL): Retrofitted Boeing 777 on EK346/347 from October 15
- Frankfurt (FRA): Latest generation cabins on EK043/044 from December 15
- Phuket (HKT): Upgraded Boeing 777 on daily EK396/397 from December 1
Emirates A350 to Australia
Adelaide (ADL) will be the first city in Emirates’ network to receive the long-range Airbus A350-900ULR, with routes EK440/441 commencing December 1. This advanced aircraft can cover distances exceeding 14,000 km and remain airborne for over 15 hours. Each A350 will feature:
- 32 lie-flat Business Class seats
- 28 Premium Economy seats
- 238 Economy Class seats
By late 2025, Emirates anticipates becoming a leading airline for Premium Economy capacity, offering over 2 million seats annually across more than 70 cities, with projections to double to 4 million seats by the end of 2026. The strong demand for elevated travel experiences is reflected in the current Premium Economy seat load averages, which exceed 80% on long-haul routes.
World’s Largest Retrofit Program
Emirates is investing $5 billion in its retrofit program, marking an unprecedented commitment to enhancing the customer experience. With over 270 engineers and technicians dedicated to this initiative, the team invests more than 1,800 man-hours daily to transform each aircraft.
The refurbishment timeline is approximately 22 days for an A380 and 18 days for a Boeing 777, with two aircraft completing the program monthly. When fully executed, Emirates will have upgraded:
- 8,512 Premium Economy seats
- 2,034 refreshed First-Class suites
- 12,720 renovated Business Class seats
- 68,364 updated Economy Class seats
The extensive upgrades will involve significant materials, including 218,000 meters of fabric for Economy Class, 130,000 square meters of leather for premium cabins, and 14,000 square meters of laminate for cabin walls.
