Ryanair to Launch New Base at Tirana Airport in April 2026 with 6 Aircraft
Ryanair has unveiled plans to establish a new base at Tirana Airport (TIA) starting in April 2026, marking a strategic move to enhance its presence in Albania.
In an announcement made on August 14, 2025, the Irish low-cost airline revealed that it would station three new Boeing 737-800 aircraft at this base, a development anticipated to create over 3,000 job opportunities. The investment aims to generate 100 new high-paying positions for both pilots and cabin crew.
The expansion will introduce ten new routes to destinations including Birmingham, Dublin, Milan, Malta, Naples, Pescara, Poznan, Trieste, Turin, and Verona.
Moreover, the airline plans to increase the frequency of nine existing routes such as Bari, London, Prague, Stockholm, and Warsaw.
“Ryanair is delighted to announce this new base with three aircraft operational in Tirana. Since launching our initial flights in November 2023, we have collaborated closely with partners at Tirana Airport to facilitate significant growth. This expansion is expected to boost our traffic to over 4 million passengers by 2026, backed by a $300 million investment in three new B737-800 aircraft,” stated Michael O’Leary, Ryanair’s CEO.
Ryanair indicated that it intends to persist in its investment initiatives in Albania over the next five years. This could lead to the stationing of up to six aircraft and an increase in passenger numbers to over five million annually.
The airline also plans to introduce over 20 new routes by 2030 and is poised to support more than 4,000 jobs, contingent on Albania maintaining its favorable policies regarding low access costs and zero aviation taxes.
“Since our operations commenced in Albania in November 2023, we have pioneered a ‘Low Fares Revolution.’ Today, we celebrate a significant milestone in this journey by establishing a base in Tirana. Beginning next summer, travelers will have even greater opportunities to explore destinations from Tirana, while showcasing Albania’s tourism to a wider audience,” remarked Piervittorio Farabbi, Chief Operating Officer of Tirana Airport.
