Virgin Australia Takes Delivery of New Boeing 737 MAX 8 Aircraft
Virgin Australia has welcomed its first delivery of six new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, leasing them from Dublin-based Avolon.
On August 21, 2025, Avolon confirmed the safe delivery of the aircraft, marking a significant milestone in their sale and leaseback arrangement with Virgin Australia.
Having been in partnership with Avolon since 2011, Virgin Australia already operates eight other aircraft leased from them.
The newly painted Boeing 737-8, registered as VH-8VA, arrived at Melbourne International Airport (MLB) on August 19, 2025, after a five-hour journey from Seattle Boeing Field (BFI).
As reported by ch-aviation, VH-8VA is part of a restructured order where the previously ordered 737-10s have been swapped for the 737-8 models.
Race Strauss, the Chief Financial Officer of Virgin Australia, expressed the airline’s enthusiasm about the new aircraft: “We value our ongoing partnership with Avolon and we are pleased to welcome our first 737-8 MAX with the lessor. We look forward to building on our relationship with Avolon through future deliveries.”
According to Avolon, this new aircraft is now the 12th Boeing 737 MAX 8 in Virgin Australia’s fleet.
Paul Geaney, President and Chief Commercial Officer at Avolon, highlighted the strength of their collaboration: “We have a strong and long-standing relationship with Virgin Australia and are delighted to support their plans with six new 737-8 MAX aircraft. The scale of our orderbook and balance sheet give us the ability to provide our customer airlines with bespoke solutions to support their expansion and fleet transition.”
