Air Canada Launches A321XLR Route from Montréal to Palma de Mallorca

Air Canada has revealed its inaugural route from Montréal to Palma de Mallorca, which will be serviced by the airline’s innovative Airbus A321XLR aircraft.

In an announcement made on September 9, 2025, Air Canada confirmed that this exciting new service will commence in June 2026, coinciding with the delivery of its A321XLR fleet in the first quarter of that year.

A New Era with A321XLR

Mark Galardo, the Executive Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer at Air Canada, stated, “The wait is nearly over, as the imminent arrival of the game-changing Airbus A321XLR marks the next phase of international growth at Air Canada.” He further emphasized that Air Canada will become the first Canadian airline to fly to this beautiful Spanish island, famous for its breathtaking beaches, rich history, and vibrant culture. “We look forward to welcoming our customers aboard this exciting new aircraft, which will join our fleet in the coming months,” Galardo added.

Flight Details

The airline plans to operate four weekly flights from Montréal to Palma de Mallorca. Departures are scheduled for 18:45 local time, arriving the next day at 08:25 local time. These flights will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, from June 17 to October 23, 2026.

For those returning from Palma de Mallorca to Montréal, flights will be available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Scheduled departures will occur at 12:15 local time, landing at 15:10 local time, operating from June 18 to October 24, 2026.

Expanding Global Reach

In addition to launching services to Mallorca, Air Canada intends to gradually transition existing routes to the A321XLR. This includes year-round flights from Montréal to Toulouse and seasonal offerings to Edinburgh. As Air Canada expands its A321XLR fleet, the airline aims to introduce new routes from Toronto, Ottawa, and Halifax, among others.

Enhanced on Board Experience

The A321XLR will be a trailblazer in Air Canada’s fleet, featuring lie-flat seats in the Business Class cabin, bringing a widebody experience to a narrowbody design. It will accommodate 182 passengers, offering 14 Signature Class seats and 168 Economy Class seats. The A321XLR will also usher in a new era of cabin interiors with an updated design.

Galardo remarked, “This revolutionary narrow-body aircraft unlocks new, exciting global opportunities with its wide-body range and enhanced onboard product.”

Aircraft Acquisition Plans

Air Canada plans to acquire a total of 30 Airbus A321XLR aircraft, with the first expected to be delivered in early 2026 on a lease from an American aircraft leasing company. The airline is also slated to receive up to 10 additional A321XLRs in 2026.
