Norwegian Airlines to Acquire 10 Boeing 737-800s
Norwegian Airlines has announced an agreement to purchase 10 Boeing 737-800 aircraft, enhancing its fleet and operational capabilities. This decision, disclosed on March 3, 2025, aims to improve financial flexibility and reduce ownership costs. The airline expects recurring annual savings of NOK 200 million ($17.8 million) and a non-recurring gain of NOK 570 million ($50.7 million) upon completion. The acquisition will be funded through current cash reserves while long-term financing is arranged. Norwegian’s fleet will now include 31 active Boeing 737-800s, 10 wet-leased, and 6 Boeing 737 MAX 8s, positioning the airline for future growth.
IndiGo Introduces New Flights to Penang and Kuala Lumpur
IndiGo Airlines has launched non-stop flights from Chennai to Penang, Malaysia, effective December 21, 2024. Operating daily, the service connects Chennai (MAA) and Penang (PEN) and marks IndiGo’s third Malaysian destination, alongside Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi. The flight departs Chennai at 2:15 AM IST, arriving in Penang at 8:30 AM, with a return at 9:30 AM. This route revives a previous connection that ended in 2012, enhancing cultural and economic ties between Tamil Nadu and Malaysia. Additionally, IndiGo introduced daily flights from Bengaluru to Kuala Lumpur, further expanding its international operations.
