Air Canada Launches Major US Routes, Boosting Growth at Toronto Island
Air Canada is gearing up to introduce new routes to four prominent U.S. cities from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ). This marks what the airline describes as the “most significant expansion” at Toronto Island since its operations commenced.
Starting in Spring 2026, the flag carrier of Canada will initiate services to New York, Boston, Washington, and Chicago, as announced on October 23, 2025.
Enhancing Travel Convenience
“These new routes will streamline travel, reconnect families, bolster economic growth, and improve service quality for Canadian travelers,” remarked Steve MacKinnon, Canada’s Transport Minister.
Passengers can expect non-stop return flights four times daily to New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA), three times daily to Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), twice daily to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), and once daily to Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD).
Details on Flight Operations
All these flights will operate under the Air Canada Express brand, facilitated by Jazz Aviation, the airline’s regional partner, utilizing a 78-seat De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft.
The introduction of these transborder services will coincide with the opening of U.S. Customs Pre-Clearance at the airport. This feature allows travelers flying from Canada to U.S. destinations to complete customs procedures before takeoff.
Domestic Flight Enhancements
In addition to the new U.S. services, beginning January 2026, Air Canada will also ramp up its daily flights on some of Canada’s busiest domestic routes. The frequency of return flights to Montreal will increase from eight to nine, while Ottawa will see an increase from four to six daily flights.
Mark Galardo, Air Canada’s Executive Vice President and CCO, emphasized, “This represents our most significant expansion at Toronto Island since we began serving the airport 35 years ago. The new transborder routes will greatly benefit our loyal customers and business travelers with frequent and convenient connections.”
Future Connectivity Plans
The airline pointed out that this expansion will complement its services from Toronto Pearson, where it aims to operate over 600 return flights daily to 124 destinations during the summer of 2026. Galardo added that this growth will ensure improved connectivity for the Greater Toronto Area and beyond.
Air Canada currently provides scheduled flights to over 180 airports throughout Canada, the United States, and on six other continents.
