Air India and Singapore Airlines Forge New Commercial Partnership
Air India and Singapore Airlines have formalized their collaboration by signing a commercial cooperation framework. This agreement aims to foster a more profound partnership between the two carriers, which are members of the Star Alliance, and may lead to joint business ventures and improved connectivity routes for India and Singapore.
The signing took place in Mumbai on January 16, 2026. Air India’s CEO Campbell Wilson and Singapore Airlines’ CEO Goh Choon Phong represented their respective airlines. The advancement of this cooperation is contingent on regulatory approvals and the finalization of agreements.
Under this framework, both airlines plan to work on better flight schedule coordination, expand codeshare options, and enhance the overall product and service experience. The primary objective is to offer travelers seamless connections, more routing alternatives, and the convenience of booking trips across both airlines as a singular journey.
This agreement came on the heels of an airspace ban by Pakistan in April 2025, which prompted Air India to halt or reroute certain US-bound flights due to extended flight times and increased costs. A stronger partnership with Singapore Airlines may assist Air India in maintaining connectivity by providing alternative routes through Singapore, while reducing service overlap.
The airlines are also considering more in-depth collaboration in corporate travel services, which may enhance experiences for business travelers. Additionally, they will explore opportunities to improve frequent flyer benefits, extending beyond the current reciprocity offered by the Star Alliance, particularly for members of Air India’s Maharaja Club and Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer programs.
Moreover, the potential of this agreement extends beyond just routes between India and Singapore. Both airlines are keen on exploring collaboration in selected additional markets, contingent upon regulatory approval, to support the rising demand for international connectivity and strengthen traffic flow through their hubs.
Currently, Air India and Singapore Airlines share a robust codeshare relationship, covering 61 destinations across 20 countries and territories. This partnership was augmented in October 2024, when they incorporated 51 new international and domestic routes into their networks.
For Air India, this agreement complements the airline’s extensive transformation agenda under Tata Group’s ownership, which encompasses fleet modernization, route expansion, and improvements to both onboard and ground services. The airline is progressively enhancing its international presence, highlighted by the addition of new long-haul aircraft and refurbished cabins.
“Air India is dedicated to expanding its global reach through both fleet enhancement and stronger commercial collaborations,” Wilson noted in a statement. He characterized the framework agreement as a strategic foundation for future cooperation and for delivering long-term value to customers.
Goh emphasized that this agreement marks a natural progression in the relationship between Air India and Singapore Airlines. He affirmed that the partnership would bolster connectivity between Singapore and India, while also nurturing tourism, air travel, and economic relationships between the two nations.
