Emirates’ A350 Makes Historic Landing at Australian Airport
DUBAI – Adelaide Airport (ADL) recently marked a significant milestone with the arrival of its first long-range Airbus A350-900 operated by Emirates Airline (EK). The flight landed as part of the airline’s regular service from Dubai (DXB).
This historic landing signifies the transition from the Boeing 777-200LR to the A350 on the daily EK440/441 route, enhancing the travel experience for passengers heading to South Australia. Registered as A6-EXM, this aircraft is the first A350-900ULR in Emirates’ fleet, designed for extended flights like the non-stop journey from Dubai to Adelaide.

Emirates A350 to Adelaide
The arrival of the A350 also features Emirates’ newly upgraded Premium Economy cabin in Adelaide. The airline emphasized that this deployment illustrates Adelaide’s increasing significance in its international operations and acknowledges the strong performance of the route since its relaunch.
Barry Brown, vice president for Australasia, mentioned that this momentous event finalizes the introduction of Premium Economy across all five Emirates locations in Australia. While Emirates has received several A350 deliveries in the past year, this specific variant is uniquely configured for long-haul flights like the non-stop Dubai–Adelaide journey.
Assigning the A350-900ULR to this route confirms its strategic importance. With this aircraft, Adelaide stands out as the first city in Emirates’ global network to host this long-range version, emphasizing the airline’s commitment to the South Australian region.

Benefit for South Australia
Officials at Adelaide Airport have welcomed this aircraft as a significant upgrade in operations. Managing Director Brenton Cox stated that the A350’s range and size align perfectly with the travel demand in South Australia.
He elaborated that enhanced comfort onboard would contribute to further market growth. Local authorities shared this sentiment, with State Tourism Minister Zoe Bettison highlighting the aircraft’s arrival as a crucial advancement for tourism.
She noted that it boosts Adelaide’s standing in global markets and increases the allure of the direct service. State data reveals that Emirates’ daily operations contribute over $62 million annually to the tourism sector in South Australia.

Route Strengthening
After a four-year hiatus that began in March 2020, Emirates resumed its Dubai–Adelaide service in October. Since then, the route has demonstrated robust performance, leading to an uptick in visitor numbers and steady travel demand. The introduction of the A350-900ULR aims to further propel growth by providing enhanced efficiency and comfort in the cabin.
This deployment is also part of Emirates’ extensive long-term investment in its Australian network. Incorporating the A350 in Adelaide solidifies the airline’s presence throughout the continent, ensuring high standards across its primary gateways.

Bottom Line
The inauguration of Emirates’ first long-range Airbus A350-900 at Adelaide Airport heralds a new era for both the airline and the aviation landscape in South Australia. This aircraft enhances passenger comfort and extends range capabilities, contributing to the route’s long-term viability.
As travel demand increases, the upgraded connection between Adelaide and Dubai is set to generate significant economic advantages while improving the overall travel experience.
