Alaska Airlines Makes Historic Aircraft Purchase from Boeing
Alaska Airlines has made a significant announcement, placing a remarkable order with Boeing for 105 additional 737 MAX 10 aircraft. This move increases the airline’s total order for this model to 174 units, along with five B787 widebody airliners, the financial details of which remain undisclosed. The order also includes options for an additional 35 B737 MAX 10 aircraft.
This expansion aims to bolster Alaska Airlines’ fleet while also replacing some of the 248 Boeing planes currently in operation. The newly ordered B787s will enhance the airline’s recently launched long-haul flights to Europe and Asia.
Over the past few years, Alaska Airlines has undergone substantial transformations, starting with its acquisition and integration of Hawaiian Airlines in 2023. Furthermore, in 2025, the airline announced plans for a dozen new long-haul routes from its Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) hub.
This milestone coincides with the 60th anniversary of Alaska Airlines’ first Boeing aircraft order, a noteworthy detail both companies highlighted during the announcement.
Deliveries of these new aircraft are scheduled through 2035, though specific details regarding the delivery timeline and cabin configuration have not been disclosed.
“These planes will fuel our expansion to more destinations across the globe and ensure our guests travel aboard the newest, most fuel-efficient and state-of-the-art aircraft,” stated Ben Minicucci, CEO of Alaska Air Group, at the announcement event in Seattle, Washington.
Additionally, Alaska Airlines showcased its first B787-9, adorned in a new blue-and-green Aurora Borealis-themed livery, intended for its long-haul fleet.
