airBaltic Achieves Record Passenger Numbers in October 2024
In an exciting development for the aviation industry, Latvian carrier airBaltic has reported record passenger numbers and load factors for October 2024. With a remarkable 470,800 passengers transported this month, the airline has achieved an impressive 11% increase compared to October 2023. This surge in passenger traffic demonstrates airBaltic’s strong market presence and commitment to enhancing travel options for customers.
Record-Breaking Performance Metrics
During October 2024, airBaltic recorded a network-wide average load factor of 84.1%, marking a significant rise of 5.7 percentage points from the previous year. The airline operated a total of 4,160 flights throughout the month, up 2% from 4,070 flights in October 2023. These achievements represent the highest totals in passenger numbers and flight operations in the airline’s 29-year history.
Year-to-Date Success
So far in 2024, airBaltic has carried over four million passengers, reaching a total of 4,309,500. The airline has also completed 39,600 flights, showcasing its robust operational capabilities.
Martin Gauss, President and CEO of airBaltic, stated, “Throughout the last months, we have reported multiple records for monthly traffic figures, highlighting our ongoing growth.” He further emphasized the airline’s strategy of launching nine new routes for the upcoming winter season from all three Baltic States, along with establishing new codeshare partnerships with reputable airlines to enhance global connectivity.
New Routes and Future Expansion
As part of its expansion strategy, airBaltic is set to introduce nine new routes for the winter 2024/25 season. This includes five new routes from Riga, two from Tallinn, and two from Vilnius. Looking ahead to the summer 2025 season, the airline plans to add 16 new destinations from the Baltic States, including four from Riga, five from Tallinn, and seven from Vilnius. These new routes aim to cater to various travel needs, including leisure, business, and onward connectivity.
Fleet Expansion with Airbus A220-300
The airline’s impressive performance coincides with the recent arrival of its 49th Airbus A220-300, which landed at Riga Airport on November 5, 2024. This aircraft marks the third A220-300 delivered to airBaltic in 2024 and nearly completes the airline’s initial order of 50 of these efficient planes. In November 2023, airBaltic announced a firm agreement for an additional 30 A220-300 aircraft, with purchase rights for 20 more in the future.
Since the introduction of its first A220-300 in May 2020, airBaltic has successfully transported over 17.88 million passengers and completed nearly 192,000 flights. The airline operates exclusively with this aircraft type, thereby minimizing operational complexity and maximizing efficiency.
Comprehensive Route Network
Currently, airBaltic offers more than 130 routes from its hubs in Riga, Tallinn, and Vilnius, with seasonal flights to Gran Canaria. The airline’s extensive network connects travelers to diverse destinations across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Caucasus region.
As airBaltic continues its growth trajectory, its commitment to providing quality service and expanding its route network is clear. For more insights into air travel trends and airline performances, feel free to explore related articles or share your thoughts on this remarkable achievement!
