Thai Airways CEO Updates on Aircraft Deliveries and Premium Class

Thai Airways Expands Fleet and Enhances Premium Class Experience by December 2024

Thai Airways is set to enhance its fleet with the addition of two Airbus A330 aircraft, aiming for operational readiness by December 2024. This move comes as part of a broader strategy to upgrade its premium class offerings, introducing two tiers of Business Class that promise to elevate the travel experience for passengers.

In an exclusive interview with AeroTime, Thai Airways CEO Chai Eamsiri shared insights during the 68th Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) Assembly of Presidents in Brunei, revealing exciting developments for the airline.

New Routes and Increased Flight Frequencies

With the arrival of the new A330 aircraft, Thai Airways plans to expand its route network. The first A330 is expected to be operational by December 2024, with the second following in 2025. Eamsiri highlighted key routes that will benefit from increased frequency, particularly the reinstatement of daily flights to Brussels Airport (BRU) from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK).

Additionally, in 2025, the airline will bolster its services to major Chinese cities, including:

  • Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG): 11 weekly flights
  • Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK): 10 weekly flights

Upgraded Premium Class Experience

Thai Airways is committed to enhancing its passenger experience by refurbishing its widebody fleet. The airline plans to upgrade 14 of its Boeing 777-300ERs and 30 new Boeing 787s with state-of-the-art seating in three classes: Business Class (featuring two types), Premium Economy, and Economy.

According to Eamsiri, the refurbishment of the B777-300ER fleet will commence in 2027 and is expected to take approximately two years. The decision to maintain only three classes stems from a growing demand for Premium Economy, which Eamsiri believes simplifies operations.

Features of the New Business Class

Passengers can anticipate significant improvements in the new Business Class. Each seat will be equipped with a privacy door, ensuring a more secluded travel experience. Notably, the front row Business Class seats will offer additional space, resembling the opulence of First Class. These seats will also feature an ottoman that converts into a private dining or meeting table for groups of up to four.

In-flight entertainment (IFE) will see enhancements as well, with Business Class monitors measuring 24 inches, Premium Economy at 13 inches, and Economy at six inches.

Conclusion

Thai Airways is poised to revolutionize its premium offerings with the introduction of new aircraft and upgraded seating options by December 2024. As the airline expands its network and enhances passenger comfort, travelers can look forward to a more luxurious flying experience.
