Avelo Airlines Launches First International Route to Jamaica
Avelo Airlines has officially announced Jamaica as its first international destination, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s expansion. The new route connects Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Hartford, Connecticut, to Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay, making travel more accessible for many. This exciting development began with the inaugural flight on November 16, 2024, which successfully transported over 150 passengers, according to the Jamaica Observer.
Strategic Importance of the New Route to Jamaica
The introduction of this route is pivotal for Jamaica’s tourism and aviation sectors. Edmund Bartlett, Jamaica’s Minister of Tourism, emphasized that this new service is poised to increase visitor numbers from the United States. He noted that it will not only enhance travel options for New England residents but also create job opportunities and stimulate economic growth.

Avelo Airlines is providing a twice-weekly service, operating on Wednesdays and Saturdays, with one-way fares starting as low as $178. This three-hour flight is designed to attract travelers from Windsor and neighboring areas in Connecticut, which have substantial cultural and familial connections to Jamaica.
Giselle Cortes, Head of Airports at Avelo Airlines, expressed pride in this historic moment: “Montego Bay has become our first international destination, and we are very proud to be landing in Jamaica. Our motto ‘one crew’ aligns beautifully with Jamaica’s ‘one love,’ symbolizing unity.”
This new route is part of Avelo’s largest expansion plan, which includes flights to seven new destinations from Bradley International Airport. Following this launch, the airline will also introduce service to Cancun, Mexico, on November 20, 2024.
