IndiGo Airlines Enhances Airport Infrastructure with Simulator Validation

GURUGRAM – IndiGo Airlines (6E), India’s largest low-cost carrier, has achieved a significant milestone in improving the country’s airport infrastructure. The airline successfully completed simulator validation for Draft RNP approaches at Noida International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport. This advancement is set to alleviate congestion at two of India’s busiest airports—Delhi (DEL) and Mumbai (BOM)—by offering alternative options, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and connectivity for travelers.

IndiGo’s Commitment to Aviation Innovation

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has approved the new simulator validation procedures, with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) playing a crucial role in designing these approaches. IndiGo expressed appreciation for the support received from both organizations in reaching this important achievement.

Surinder (SPS Narli), Director of Air Traffic Management at IndiGo Airlines, shared this accomplishment on LinkedIn, receiving commendations from colleagues. One commenter noted that the validation reduces the workload on the Flight Inspection Unit (FIU) while enhancing safety measures. These developments are expected to transition into live operations soon.

Surinder reiterated IndiGo’s dedication to strengthening aviation infrastructure and thanked Capt. Ashim Mittra and Mr. Aakash Bhatnagar for their unwavering support. This progress reflects IndiGo’s commitment to driving safety and innovation in the aviation sector.

Noida International Airport: A Game Changer for Connectivity

Noida International Airport (NIA) is poised to become a vital player in Indian aviation, offering international connections to Zurich (ZRH), Singapore (SIN), and Dubai (DXB) through airlines such as Lufthansa (LH) and Singapore Airlines (SQ). These routes will significantly enhance India’s global connectivity. Domestically, NIA aims to connect 25 routes, making Noida a key travel hub.

Located in Jewar, western Uttar Pradesh, NIA will commence its second phase of trial operations on November 15. This phase, which will last until December 15, will see daily flights operated by Akasa Air (QP), IndiGo (6E), and potentially Air India (AI). Arun Veer Singh, CEO of Noida International Airport Limited, confirmed that the testing phase will last for one month, with data submitted to the DGCA for review by December 20. Following this, the airport will apply for aerodrome licensing, a vital step towards operational readiness. Licensing is anticipated by March 20, 2025, with commercial operations slated to begin on April 17, 2025.

On its opening day, NIA plans to handle 30 flights, including 25 domestic flights, three international flights, and two cargo operations. Initial international destinations will include Zurich, Singapore, and Dubai, while domestic flights will connect Noida to major cities such as Lucknow, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Dehradun.

Navi Mumbai Airport: A New Frontier for Aviation

Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), the second international airport for Mumbai, is being developed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), which manages and develops eight airports across India. The airport covers a sprawling 1,160 hectares, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi laying its foundation stone on February 18, 2018. Construction officially began in August 2021.

The airport’s development follows a phased approach and will feature two parallel runways, four terminals, a dedicated cargo terminal, a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) zone, as well as provisions for corporate and residential buildings. On October 11, 2024, the Indian Air Force’s Airbus C295 aircraft made the first landing on NMIA’s Southern Runway (RY08/26), marking a crucial step toward the airport’s operational readiness.

NMIA aims to commence domestic operations by March 2025, with international services expected to launch by June 2025.
