This announcement, made by Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, reflects the airline’s commitment to expanding its route map and providing travelers with more options than ever.
Sydney Flights Begin on November 28, 2024
Starting November 28, 2024, Turkish Airlines will introduce its second route to Australia, connecting Istanbul directly to Sydney. This new service will operate four times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays—with a brief stopover in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
- Inaugural Flight Details:
- Departure: Istanbul at 1:15 p.m.
- Arrival: Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport at 4:30 p.m. the next day after a 70-minute refueling stop in Kuala Lumpur.
Return flights will depart from Sydney at 8:40 p.m., landing in Istanbul at 10:15 a.m. the following day. Initially, these flights will be serviced by a Boeing 777 with a 2-2-2 business class layout. However, starting December 3, 2024, the airline will switch to the Airbus A350, featuring a more spacious 1-2-1 flatbed seating configuration in business class.
Expanded Sydney Service Planned for 2025
Looking ahead, Turkish Airlines plans to increase its Sydney service by adding a fifth weekly flight beginning June 10, 2025. The airline also has ambitions to launch non-stop flights from Istanbul to Sydney by late 2026, utilizing the long-range Airbus A350-1000 aircraft.
Santiago Flights Commence on December 18, 2024
On December 18, 2024, Turkish Airlines will also debut its first-ever flights to Santiago, Chile. This route marks a significant milestone for the airline as it expands its presence in South America. The Istanbul-based carrier will operate four weekly flights that will include a stop in São Paulo, Brazil, before continuing to Santiago.
A Growing Global Network
With the addition of these new routes, Turkish Airlines’ network will expand to an impressive 349 destinations worldwide, solidifying its status as one of the most connected airlines globally.
“Turkish Airlines continues to enhance its global network, bridging continents and cultures. Our new routes to Sydney and Santiago reaffirm our commitment to creating opportunities for our passengers to explore new destinations,” said Turkish Airlines Chairman Ahmet Bolat.
These new flights are expected to offer competitive airfare options, providing travelers with enhanced connectivity to Europe, Asia, and beyond.
