Qatar Airways Launches New Bogotá and Caracas Flights

Qatar Airways Seeks Approval for New Flights Between Doha and Bogotá

Qatar Airways is making headlines with its recent application to the Colombian aviation authority, Aerocivil, for a new twice-weekly flight service connecting Doha (DOH) and Bogotá (BOG). This move not only enhances the airline’s global reach but also opens up exciting travel opportunities for passengers looking to connect between the Middle East and South America.

In addition to the direct service between Doha and Bogotá, Qatar Airways plans to extend the route to Caracas (CCS), Venezuela. This strategic route will leverage Fourth Freedom rights, allowing the carrier to transport passengers from Caracas back to Doha. Travelers can look forward to flying in comfort on either Boeing 777-300ER or Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, ensuring a pleasant journey.

Competitive Landscape in South America

This announcement comes just six months after Emirates, a key competitor, launched its own daily service to Bogotá from Dubai (DXB). Emirates’ flights, which began in June 2024, serve as an extension of its Miami (MIA) route, also utilizing the Boeing 777-300ER. This competition highlights the growing interest in the South American market from major international airlines.

Meanwhile, Turkish Airlines is also actively serving both Bogotá and Caracas from its Istanbul (IST) hub. The Turkish carrier’s Bogotá flights continue on to Panama City (PTY), while its Caracas service is part of a broader route to Havana (HAV), showcasing the increasing connectivity in the region.

Benefits of Qatar Airways’ New Service

The introduction of Qatar Airways’ service is expected to bring several benefits:

  • Enhanced Connectivity: Increased flight options for travelers between the Middle East and South America.
  • More Choices: Passengers will have more airlines to choose from, leading to competitive pricing and services.
  • Economic Growth: Improved air travel links can stimulate tourism and trade between Colombia, Venezuela, and Qatar.
