EASA Certifies Pratt & Whitney PW1100G Engines for Airbus A321XLR and A321neo
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has officially granted certification for several high-thrust models of the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engine, significantly enhancing the operational capabilities of the Airbus A321XLR and A321neo. This certification, which follows prior approval from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), enables these aircraft to perform optimally under various operational conditions, including hot-day takeoffs and reduced go-around thrust.
EASA’s Certification of Airbus A321XLR P&W Engine Models
On February 7, EASA validated multiple variants of the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engine, specifically the PW1133G1, GR, GAR, and G1R models. Designed for the Airbus A321neo and A321XLR, these engines feature optimized thrust configurations tailored to meet specific operational requirements.
- Performance Enhancements: Each engine variant offers distinct performance upgrades, including:
- Hot-day takeoff boost: Enhances engine performance during high-temperature conditions.
- Reduced go-around thrust: This feature allows for lower power output than maximum rated takeoff thrust, leading to improved efficiency and fuel savings.

Additional Engine Certifications for Airbus A320neo
In addition to the A321XLR engine approvals, EASA has also certified two PW1127 engine variants, G1A and G1B, for use in the Airbus A320neo. These engines, which were previously certified by the FAA in August 2023, also feature reduced go-around thrust for enhanced efficiency.
