Qantas and Jetstar Celebrate International Women’s Day 2025 with All-Female Operated Flights
In a significant move to honor International Women’s Day 2025, Qantas and Jetstar Australia are set to launch 50 all-female operated flights from March 3-9, 2025. This initiative not only showcases the talents of women in aviation but also aims to inspire future generations to pursue careers in this dynamic industry. With over 250 female pilots, cabin crew, engineers, and operations team members participating, these flights will operate across more than 20 routes in Australia, New Zealand, and Asia.
A Historic Week of All-Female Flights
The celebration kicks off with a Jetstar flight departing from Adelaide Airport (ADL) to Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport (SYD) on March 3, 2025. Following this inaugural flight, a variety of routes will be serviced throughout the week, including:
- SYD to Hobart Airport (HBA)
- Brisbane Airport (BNE) to Geraldton Airport (GET)
- Cairns Airport (CNS) to Melbourne Airport (MEL)
- SYD to Perth Airport (PER)
- Auckland Airport (AKL) to Christchurch Airport (CHC)
- Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) to Fukuoka Airport (FUK)
Inspiring Future Generations in Aviation
Brigitte Howe, a Second Officer on the B787, expressed her excitement about the initiative. “These flights symbolize the incredible talent across Qantas and Jetstar, celebrating the women who have paved the way for future generations,” Howe stated. She hopes that young girls will be inspired to consider careers in aviation, surrounded by supportive and talented women.
Captain Lizzie Archibald, Jetstar’s Senior Manager of Flying Operations, emphasized the importance of showcasing the diverse career paths available to women in aviation. “These flights are an opportunity to highlight the leadership and expertise women bring to our industry, inspiring young girls to explore roles as pilots, engineers, and more,” Archibald remarked.
Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion in Aviation
Qantas has made strides in promoting gender diversity in the aviation sector. The Group Pilot Academy has doubled its scholarships for female and First Nations students to 20, ensuring a broader talent pipeline. Notably, women comprised 20% of the apprentice intake at the Qantas Group Engineering Academy this year, while a record 35% of Jetstar’s engineering graduates in 2025 are women.
The Qantas Group is dedicated to attracting more women into aviation careers through various school outreach programs and work experience initiatives. This commitment not only fosters a more inclusive workplace but also enhances the overall talent pool in the industry.
