China Eastern Airlines Launches Nonstop Flights from Shanghai to Abu Dhabi

Shanghai, China – In an exciting development for travelers, China Eastern Airlines (MU) has announced the launch of nonstop flights connecting its hub in Shanghai, Pudong International Airport, to Abu Dhabi starting April 28, 2025. This new route promises to enhance travel options between China and the United Arab Emirates, making it easier for business and leisure travelers alike.

The flights will operate four times a week—on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday—offering seamless connections between these two vibrant cities.

China Eastern Airlines Flights to Abu Dhabi

Passengers can expect a comfortable journey aboard the Airbus A330, equipped with high-speed WiFi and lie-flat seats in the business class. The aircraft features a modern layout with 30 seats in premium cabins arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration, and 202 economy seats in a 2-4-2 setup, totaling 1,856 available tickets for the Shanghai-Abu Dhabi route.

The flight numbers for this new service are MU237 and MU238. Flight MU237 will depart from Shanghai’s Pudong Airport at 15:10 local time, arriving in Abu Dhabi at 21:20 after a flight duration of 10 hours and 10 minutes. Following a brief two-hour turnaround, flight MU238 will take off from Abu Dhabi at 23:20, landing back at Shanghai at 12:40 the next day, completing the journey in 9 hours and 20 minutes.

Enhancing Connectivity Between the UAE and Mainland China

This new route marks the fifth service China Eastern Airlines operates in the United Arab Emirates. Previously, the airline had flights to Dubai from Kunming, Shanghai, Qingdao, and Xian. The addition of this nonstop flight enhances connectivity, with Abu Dhabi becoming a strategic hub for travelers from China.

The partnership with Etihad Airways (EY), established through a memorandum of understanding in December 2023, will facilitate codeshare agreements, frequent flyer programs, and cargo operations. This collaboration aims to boost travel between the UAE and China, as Abu Dhabi is increasingly recognized by Chinese businesses as a prime free trade zone with robust energy and financial sectors.
