This latest initiative follows Air India’s substantial 2023 agreement to acquire 470 aircraft from both manufacturers, as well as an earlier order for an additional 100 Airbus jets. While these previous orders primarily focused on single-aisle aircraft, Air India’s existing commitments include 50 Airbus A350s, 10 Boeing 777Xs, and 20 Boeing 787 Dreamliners.

Surging International Travel Demand

The strategic division of these orders includes 250 Airbus and 220 Boeing aircraft. The Airbus order consists of 40 widebody A350s (20 A350-900 and 20 A350-1000) along with 210 single-aisle A320 Family aircraft. Meanwhile, the Boeing order features 30 widebody aircraft (20 B787 Dreamliners and 10 B777X) and 190 single-aisle B737-8 planes.

Since September 2023, Air India has welcomed 41 aircraft deliveries, including 6 A350-900 widebodies and 35 B737-8 single-aisle planes. However, a significant portion of the total orders remains outstanding, with 529 aircraft yet to be delivered.
