Virgin Australia Unveils New Dual-Class Embraer E190-E2 Jets for Western Australia Charter Market

Virgin Australia is set to revolutionize the Western Australian charter market with the introduction of its new dual-class Embraer E190-E2 jets. This significant upgrade promises enhanced passenger experience and operational flexibility, marking a pivotal moment for the airline and its customers.

The assembly of the first E190-E2 aircraft began in March 2025, with four of the eight new jets expected to join Virgin Australia Regional Airlines (VARA) within the next 12 months. The inaugural flight of the first aircraft, aptly named ‘Coral Bay,’ is scheduled for October 2025.

Enhanced Passenger Experience with Dual-Class Layout

"We have opted for a dual-class layout, which actually gives us three product options, including our extra legroom option, Economy X," said Nathan Miller, VARA Executive General Manager. This layout allows the airline to adapt its services according to demand, providing flexibility for both charter operations and commercial flights.

Miller noted the positive feedback surrounding the E190-E2 acquisition, highlighting that this will introduce the first brand-new aircraft to the Western Australian charter market.

Innovative Features and Amenities

Each E190-E2 jet will be equipped with a suite of modern amenities, including:

  • Wi-Fi connectivity for seamless online access.
  • In-flight entertainment available through passengers’ personal devices.
  • In-seat power to keep devices charged throughout the flight.

"Our customers are excited about the two-plus-two seating arrangement in our economy cabin, which eliminates middle seats and ensures everyone has space for their carry-on luggage," Miller explained. Passengers can look forward to a more comfortable flying experience compared to the outgoing Fokker 100s.

Commitment to Sustainability

The Embraer E190-E2 jets are not just about comfort; they also feature impressive sustainability credentials. With the lowest noise profile in their segment, these aircraft are designed to minimize disturbance for communities near airports—an essential consideration for early morning departures. Furthermore, these new jets are touted as the most fuel-efficient in their category, promising up to a 30% reduction in emissions compared to the Fokker 100s.

New Engineering Hangar at Perth Airport

In addition to the new aircraft, VARA is excited to announce the upcoming opening of a new hangar at Perth Airport (PER). This facility will serve as a base for the airline’s engineering team, enhancing operational capabilities and maintenance efficiency.

Conclusion: A New Era for Virgin Australia

With the introduction of the Embraer E190-E2 jets, Virgin Australia is poised to set new standards in the Western Australian charter market. This move not only enhances the passenger experience but also underscores the airline’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.
