Transavia Unveils Sneak Peek of Airbus A321neo Retro Jet

Transavia to Launch Special Retro Jet Livery for 60th Anniversary Celebration

In a thrilling announcement, Dutch leisure airline Transavia is set to unveil a striking retro jet livery on one of its new Airbus A321neos to commemorate the airline’s 60th anniversary. This exciting reveal is scheduled for October 21, 2025, marking a significant milestone for the airline, which has a rich history dating back to its first commercial flight on November 16, 1966.

The retro livery will pay homage to the original designs featured on Transavia’s early Boeing 737s and Sud Aviation Caravelles. Notably, the vibrant green scheme created by Dutch designer Thijs Postma in 1966 will be revived, showcasing a lime green window line along with a bold black ‘T’ on the tail and forward fuselage. The aircraft is anticipated to begin passenger services in the summer of 2025.

Transavia’s Retro Jet: Design and Production Details

Recently, Transavia has shared captivating images on social media, revealing the aircraft currently being painted at Airbus’ Hamburg-Finkenwerder (XFW) assembly plant in Germany. The visuals highlight the application of the iconic green window ‘cheatline’ and the prominent black ‘T’ on the fuselage. As part of Airbus’ production process, the tail section is prefabricated and painted separately before being attached to the aircraft in Hamburg.

  • Key Features of the Retro Jet:
    • Revived 1966 livery design
    • Lime green window line and tail
    • Large black ‘T’ on tail and fuselage
    • Enhanced retro style visible on the sharklets

According to the airline, “A nice detail can also be found on the inside of the sharklets – the raised wing tips. The retro style can also be seen there, through the window, from your seat.”
